Hero of Humanity

Location: Human Commonwealth, German Colony planet Dartsündt, Bauer Settlement.

The young man, clad in the standard uniform for the Human Armed Forces, stood leaning on his service sword by the window, observing the battle raging below. Each assault on the crashed, but functional, alien ship failed, time and time again. Not bothering to acknowledge commander Fritz von Speer as the commander entered into the room he continued to observe as the colonial militia took to a tactical retreat back to the trenches.
"As you can see, sir, we desperately need your help in this matter." von Speer said as he came to stand by the younger man. The younger man didn't say anything for a long time, not until the battlefield once more was empty did he speak.
"Indeed you need help, perhaps not my help specifically, but you and your troops need help. You are going about this entirely the wrong way; you can't assault a ship without mechanized support! You are lucky none of your troops or civilians have died yet." The young mans voice was sharp, if a little pained, taking the commander aback.
"Ahem, I see. How would you deal with this matter then, Captain Lee?" von Speer asked tersely, not used to having his command questioned.
"Assume diplomacy, talk with them. We have enough troubles with the Calderi Empire. We don't need to fight a veritable war against these aliens. Knowing your record, commander, I doubt they were the first to fire." Lee said quietly as he turned fully towards von Speer, his single eye bloodshot from lack of sleep. "You have read the H.A.F. guidelines commander, what makes you think you are allowed to fight first and ask questions later? Hm? Can you answer that?" Lee asked. At the ensuing silence he merely smiled tiredly. "I thought as much. I'm going out there, to talk with these aliens of yours, since you obviously don't have the will, or the guts, to do so." Lee said as he limped towards the door.
Lee found himself alone out on the field of battle, halfway between the trenches and the crashed alien ship, limping over the wasteland that the fighting had created, holding the general flag of truce. Suddenly one of the aliens landed not far from him.
"Turn back Human, we will not allow you to harm us any further!" The alien, a large metallic looking humanoid, screeched in a sharp staccato voice.
Lee winced but held firm, his flag of truce waving in the wind.
"I have not come here to fight you! I have come here to negotiate a truce as indicated by this white flag!" Lee said firmly.
"Oh? Since you want to talk, I'll let you hear… my VOICE!" The alien said before unleashing a scream, a scream so loud and violent that the troops by the trenches could both hear and feel it. Lee soon passed out and the alien soon left after that.

*some time later, Bauer general hospital*
"-waking up soon-" "Tell me the moment he wakes up." Lee heard voices, distant still but it was there. Groaning Lee opened his eye, only to see Commander Speer's smiling face.
"Welcome back to the world of the living Captain." Speer said cheerfully.
"Man, you seem way too happy for having witnessed my failure. Something happening?"
"Why, yes. The Security Council has agreed to my request and sent a detachment of assault suits. Since your method failed we're going to go all out on that ship." Speer said with glee while Lee frowned in thought.

*half an hour later, one of the armor hangars*
"Today is the day that we shall remove these aliens from our planet!" Von Speer spoke to his assembled troops, riding in an assault suit.
"Good luck." Was all Lee said, making several of the troops turn their heads and stare at him.
Commander Speer gave a rueful smile to Lee.
"You're not coming with us? And here I thought you were a hero. I was wrong." Speer said.
"You were wrong, for you don't know the meaning of the word Hero." Lee said and turned his back to the commander.
